Put a stop to Elon Musk
To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
February 5
The Treasury Department granting Elon Musk's team access to the federal payment system is an alarming overreach of executive power. As a private citizen with no elected mandate, Musk should not have the ability to monitor or potentially restrict government spending that has been duly approved by Congress. This unilateral move undermines the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution. Congress must swiftly intervene to revoke this access and reassert its authority over the power of the purse. Allowing an unelected individual like Musk to wield such influence over the distribution of funds is undemocratic and sets a dangerous precedent of executive overreach. Fiscal decisions should be made through the proper legislative process, not by presidential decree or at the whims of a billionaire with his own agenda. This is a clear violation of the separation of powers and a threat to the foundations of American democracy. Congressional leaders have a duty to their constituents and the nation to defend Congress's constitutional prerogatives over federal spending. Decisive action is needed to block this inappropriate granting of access and prevent further erosion of Congress's fiscal authorities by the executive branch. The integrity of government processes and democratic norms is at stake.
