Pete Hegseth Just Committed a War Crime

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine, Rep. Wittman

From: A constituent in Henrico, VA

March 13

Pete Hegseth appears to be attempting to speed-run his way through as many violations of DoD code as possible. His remarks today that "no quarter" will be given to "our enemies" (even though it remains unclear who, exactly, US policy currently means by that) is not only deeply troubling, it is, itself, a violation of our own military codes and a war crime. It's been recognized as a war crime, internationally, for over a century. I cite the Manual for Military Commissions: "Any person subject to this chapter who, with effective command or control over subordinate groups, declares, orders, or otherwise indicates to those groups that there shall be no survivors or surrender accepted, with the intent to threaten an adversary or to conduct hostilities such that there would be no survivors or surrender accepted, shall be punished as a military commission under this chapter may direct." And Pete Hegseth clearly fulfills all of the underlisted elements. If you're not okay with this, you need to be calling for his removal from office. He is a dangerous man. He does not have the temperament for the position he's in. He seems to think he's playing Call of Duty, not leading the US Department of *Defense*.
