Reinstate ACA Credits to End Government Shutdown
To: Rep. Van Drew
From: A constituent in Bridgeton, NJ
October 7, 2025
As we enter the seventh day of the government shutdown, I urge you to support the reinstatement of enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies as part of the funding bill to end this crisis. The ongoing impasse is causing significant disruptions across our nation, particularly in our air transportation system, which is vital for both our economy and national security.
The shutdown has already led to flight delays and staffing shortages at airports nationwide. Air traffic control facilities are facing critical staffing issues, with some towers being forced to close. This not only inconveniences travelers but also poses serious safety concerns. Moreover, if the shutdown continues past Sunday, funding for flights to small cities will expire, further isolating rural communities and damaging local economies.
Extending the enhanced ACA subsidies is a small price to pay for ending this costly standoff. These subsidies have helped millions of Americans access affordable healthcare, particularly during the ongoing global health crisis. By including this provision in the funding bill, we can address both the immediate need to reopen the government and the long-term health needs of our citizens.
President Trump may claim that Republicans are "winning" this standoff, but the real losers are the American people. Every day this shutdown continues, we risk further political damage and erosion of public trust in our institutions. The negotiations between Democrats and Republicans appear stalled, but compromise is essential for effective governance.
I implore you to break this deadlock by supporting a funding bill that includes the extension of ACA subsidies. This approach would not only end the current crisis but also ensure that your constituents continue to have access to affordable healthcare. Time is of the essence – please act swiftly to resolve this shutdown and get our government working again for the American people.
