Congress Must Authorize Any Further U.S. Military Attacks
To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd
From: A constituent in Corolla, NC
December 10
I am writing to urge you to insist that no further United States military attacks be carried out unless they are expressly authorized by Congress, as required by the Constitution.
The framers placed the war-making power with Congress because they understood the dangers of allowing a single executive to initiate armed conflict. Their intent was to ensure that any decision to use military force would reflect the will of the American people through their elected representatives—not the unilateral decision of one officeholder.
Recent and ongoing strikes risk drawing the United States into a broader conflict without the public debate, legal authorization, or strategic clarity that congressional approval provides. Military action, even when limited, carries enormous consequences: loss of life, regional instability, financial cost, and the possibility of escalation. These decisions must not be made without democratic oversight.
I ask you to use your authority, your voice, and your vote to reaffirm Congress’s constitutional role. Please insist that the administration cease all attacks not authorized by Congress, and make clear that any future use of force must come before the legislative branch for debate and approval.
This is not a partisan issue—it is a constitutional one. Upholding the separation of powers protects our troops, our nation, and our democracy.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I expect and appreciate your leadership in ensuring that Congress fulfills its constitutional duty.
Sincerely,
