Draft and enforce a permanent moratorium on AI infrastructure in CO

To: Rep. Zokaie, Sen. Kirkmeyer, Gov. Polis

From: A constituent in Fort Collins, CO

August 7

AI data centers are ticks on the body of Colorado. They bump up utility costs, siphon off water, pollute our communities, and destroy jobs with the insidious AI programs they facilitate. They take everything and give nothing back. We are already in a terrible drought, the air itself is thick with smoke from fires here and in our neighboring states. We cannot afford to let a single one of these water stealing buildings be constructed. Living costs are already outrageously high. We cannot afford increases to our electricity bills and other utility costs, not when so many of us are already on a razor’s edge. We certainly can’t afford to have our jobs replaced by machines. I demand a full and permanent moratorium on any and all AI related infrastructure, followed by the seizure of all existing data centers and other sites of AI infrastructure via eminent domain so they can be demolished and replaced with infrastructure that will benefit the people of CO. Libraries, community centers, there are thousands of genuinely useful things you could build instead of these hubs of parasitic technology.
