I send this message to urge you to vote against the SAVE act. Needing to provide a birth certificate or passport to register to vote is an onerous requirement. Not all Americans have a passport. I personally don't have a copy of my birth certificate. Additionally, this puts a barrier in place for those who have changed their names for any reason. As a married woman I changed my last name - it no longer matches my birth certificate. This would prevent me from voting or registering to vote. The identity verification requirements will harm rural voters who are not near a division of elections office. How will the thousands of Alaskans living off of the road system get to an office to register to vote? Please vote against the SAVE act.
