Please Oppose Medicaid Cuts in Proposed Tax Legislation

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen, Rep. Horsford

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

May 13

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose the proposed Medicaid cuts outlined in the House Republicans’ budget plan, which aims to offset the cost of extending and expanding tax breaks that predominantly benefit the wealthy. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that these cuts could result in approximately 8.6 million Americans losing their health coverage over the next decade. Implementing stricter work requirements, reducing federal support for states, and introducing out-of-pocket fees for certain Medicaid recipients would disproportionately affect low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—groups that rely heavily on Medicaid for essential healthcare services. (AP article (https://apnews.com/article/medicaid-cuts-trump-tax-cuts-bill-1e2b12a91a3d12ceb0420ce7053de58e)) While I understand the importance of fiscal responsibility, reducing access to healthcare for our most vulnerable citizens to finance tax cuts for the affluent is not the solution. Such measures could lead to increased emergency room visits, higher uncompensated care costs for hospitals, and overall poorer health outcomes in our communities. I urge you to consider the long-term implications of these cuts and to stand against any legislation that undermines the health and well-being of your constituents. Protecting Medicaid is not just a moral imperative but also a practical one that ensures a healthier, more productive society. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your response and hope you will act in the best interests of all Americans.
