Reject Hegseth Nomination Over Ethical Concerns, Unfit Leadership

To: Rep. Olszewski, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Baltimore, MD

January 15, 2025

The allegations and concerns raised about Pete Hegseth during the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing were significant. They called into question his judgment, character, and ability to lead the Department of Defense with integrity. His past actions indicate a concerning lack of respect for women and a disregard for ethical standards expected of someone in a position of leadership. I urge you to take these issues seriously and vote against confirming Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. His conduct and the doubts it raises about his fitness for this critical role are too substantial to be ignored or excused. The nation's military deserves a leader of unimpeachable character and whose priorities are clearly aligned with the values and wellbeing of our service members. I also encourage you to voice these concerns to your colleagues and make the case that Hegseth's confirmation would undermine good order, discipline, and moral authority within the armed forces. His past behavior and the questions it raises about his judgment are disqualifying for an office requiring sound leadership and the esteem of those serving under its charge. Please stand firm in defense of the high ethical bar this position demands.
