Defend Alaska’s Veterans—Don’t Let Trump Abandon Them

To: Sen. Sullivan

As an Alaskan and constituent, I want to thank you for your service to our country and your ongoing commitment to Alaska’s military families. Alaska has the highest percentage of veterans per capita in the U.S.—more than 10% of our adult population has served. We owe these men and women not only our respect, but real, tangible support. That’s why I’m urging you to speak out and take action against the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the VA Servicing Purchase program (VASP). As NPR reported, this vital program—launched under President Biden—helped over 20,000 veterans avoid foreclosure by restructuring missed payments into manageable, low-interest VA-backed loans. With nearly 90,000 VA loans now seriously past due, and 33,000 already in foreclosure proceedings, ending this program will force thousands of veterans and their families into crisis. This isn’t just bad policy—it’s a betrayal of those who put their lives on the line for this country. The idea that MAGA Republicans would gut this program, claiming it lacks congressional authority, while continuing to push tax breaks for billionaires and defense contractors, is unconscionable. Please support any legislation that reinstates or replaces VASP, and use your voice to call out this attack on the very people who defended our freedoms. Veterans kept their promises to America. It’s time America keeps its promises to them.
