Oppose Expanded Funding for ICE Operations
To: Sen. Baldwin
From: A constituent in Neenah, WI
January 27
I am writing to urge you to vote against any expansion of funding and resources for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Recent ICE operations have demonstrated that increased funding does not translate to improved public safety. Instead, it has enabled tactics that endanger communities and erode the trust between residents and law enforcement.
The deaths of Keith Porter Jr., Renee Nicole Good, and Alex Pretti underscore the urgent need to reassess how ICE operates in our communities. Under current leadership, ICE has conducted neighborhood raids with excessive force, creating dangerous conditions that put bystanders at risk. These operations traumatize families and separate communities rather than enhancing security. When federal agents operate with broad immunity and without accountability measures, the potential for abuse of power increases dramatically.
Public safety requires trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. ICE's current approach undermines that foundation. Expanding funding for an agency that operates with minimal transparency and accountability is not in the interest of constituents who deserve both security and civil liberties.
I am asking you to take specific action by voting against expanded ICE funding. Additionally, I urge you to support measures that would withdraw federal immunity from ICE agents, prohibit cooperation between federal immigration enforcement and local law enforcement, and mandate transparency measures such as requiring agents to remain unmasked while on duty so they can be identified and held accountable.
Demonstrations are occurring across the country because constituents recognize that our current approach is failing. I am one of many voters in your district demanding accountability and a different path forward. Your vote on ICE funding will signal whether you prioritize community safety and civil liberties or the expansion of an agency that has lost public trust.
