The president is leaning on legislation that was designed to create national monuments to gut Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante in order to “give it back to the people”- while we know what he really wants to do is let private companies extract from what is already public land. This is a lose-lose situation, as we stand to lose the tribal lands and their history that can never be replaced to companies who stand to turn a profit and give nothing to the American people who technically already own that land. Furthermore, the government failed to consult with the tribes who steward those lands as historic sacred sites, yet again breaching agreements with the native people of this country who still suffer under the oppression of this government. Something needs to be done to stop this pillaging of our beautiful national lands NOW. Please make your position known- or soon it will be our own White Mountains falling under the bulldozer of extraction. We can’t get these national landscapes back once they’re gone.
