Let's be clear: the so-called Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act isn't about securing our electionsit's about suppressing voters. It should be called silencing American act.
If you vote for it, you're not defending democracy. You're helping dismantle it.
The SAVE Act is a direct assault on millions of eligible Americans. It would force voters to show documentary proof of citizenshiplike a passport or birth certificateevery time they register or update their registration. These documents are costly, difficult to access, and not required in most states today. Seniors, people with disabilities, rural residents, and low-income Americans would be among the first silenced.
Married women whose names no longer match their birth certificates? Blocked. Naturalized citizens who could face additional barriers, intimidation, military members, tribal citizens, and working-class Americans, who may not have easy access to these documents. The silencing Americans act would require every voter to show proof of citizenship like a passport or original birth certificate when registering to vote in federal elections but the reality is even though with that sounds simple millions of eligible voters don't have those documents. We already have to show government photo ID in North Carolina to vote. Yet we have already seen how a Republican judge who lost his election wasn't satisfied with that and he's trying to overturn 60000 legitimate NC votes.
I am a married woman, and I took my husband's name proudly over 19 years ago. My last name does not match my birth certificate. Please explain to me how this bill protects me, but instead of discriminating against me for marrying and taking my husband's name. Shame on republicans for trying to pass this sham bill.
