Vote NO on Defunding Public Broadcasting
To: Rep. Huffman
From: A verified voter in Corte Madera, CA
July 17
As a member of SAG-AFTRA, a constituent, and a former public radio staff member, I strongly oppose the proposal to rescind $1.1 billion in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I know you are doing everything you can, and I am hoping you and other leaders in Congress can stop this nightmare.
Public broadcasting is not only a pillar of our democracy — it is a vital source of employment for journalists, performers, producers, and creative professionals. This funding sustains trusted news, children’s programming, and arts content, especially in rural and underserved communities where no other options exist. In particular, NPR has grown from the small news operation that I worked in back in the early 1980s into a powerful global news organization and — most importantly — a training organization that supports local news throughout our country.
Cutting this support will eliminate jobs, silence local voices and hurt communities across the country. Please protect public broadcasting and vote NO on any measure to rescind CPB funding.
