Reject Rep. Gaetz's Unfit Nomination for Attorney General
To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis
From: A constituent in Charlotte, NC
November 19
The nomination of Rep. Matt Gaetz for Attorney General is profoundly concerning. His record demonstrates a blatant disregard for democratic principles and civil rights protections that are central to the Department of Justice's mission. As an unabashed election denier, Gaetz not only voted to overturn the 2020 election results but also actively shielded the insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol on January 6th. His proposed voter suppression bills aim to disenfranchise eligible voters, undermining the very foundation of our democracy. Moreover, his promotion of white supremacist ideologies and calls for violence against racial justice protesters reveal a disturbing lack of commitment to equal justice under the law. Compounding these concerns, Gaetz is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for alleged illicit drug use and sexual assault of a minor, conduct entirely unbecoming of the nation's top law enforcement officer. Confirming Gaetz would grievously compromise the DOJ's ability to uphold the rule of law and safeguard civil liberties for all Americans. The Senate must reject this nomination to preserve the integrity of our justice system and democratic institutions.
