Oppose HB209 – Voting Amendments

To: Rep. Defay, Sen. Stevenson, Gov. Cox

From: A verified voter in Layton, UT

February 6

I am writing to formally state my strong opposition to HB209. I am concerned that this bill creates unnecessary administrative complexity and risks disenfranchising eligible Utah voters. The proposed bifurcated system—requiring specific documentary proof of citizenship for state and local races—places an undue burden on seniors, rural voters, and citizens who may not have immediate access to passports or birth certificates. Utah’s current election system is already recognized as safe and secure. Implementing a dual-database system would increase costs for taxpayers and create confusion at the polls without a proven need for such a drastic change. I urge you to vote NO on HB209 to protect the accessibility and integrity of our elections for all legal residents of Utah.
