End the Shutdown, End the Lies, End the Chaos

To: Rep. Murphy, Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Atlantic Beach, NC

October 1, 2025

As a concerned constituent of North Carolina, I am writing to strongly condemn the recent government shutdown and the growing dysfunction that continues to plague Congress. It is unacceptable that the basic operations of our federal government are being held hostage over political gamesmanship, manufactured outrage, and deliberate misinformation. The claim circulating among Republican leadership—that the recent spending bill would have given illegal immigrants free healthcare—is blatantly false. Americans can read the bill. We can read the facts. We know that this rhetoric is not just incorrect—it is designed to mislead, incite fear, and further divide our communities. This kind of misinformation undermines public trust and distracts from the very real issues our country faces. Furthermore, I am alarmed by the continued support among many in Congress, including members of the North Carolina delegation, for a president who regularly engages in divisive tactics, baseless threats, and dangerous rhetoric toward anyone who disagrees with him. This is not leadership. It is bullying. And it erodes the democratic values that every elected official has sworn to protect. You were elected to serve all your constituents—not a political base, not a party leader, and certainly not the whims of one man. I urge you to reject extremist narratives, work across the aisle in good faith, and refocus your energy on pragmatic governance that reflects the integrity, decency, and common sense North Carolinians deserve. I expect better, and I will be watching closely.
