I am writing to express my strong opposition to Senate Bill 56, which is a direct affront to the choices made by Ohio voters. When Ohioans cast their ballots on citizen-led initiatives, they do so with the expectation that their decisions will be respected. Senate Bill 56 undermines that trust by attempting to weaken or override the outcomes of these democratic processes.
Ballot initiatives allow Ohioans to directly shape the policies that affect their lives. When voters approve an initiative, it is a clear expression of the will of the people. Efforts to diminish or interfere with those choices after the fact are not just legislative overreach—they are an insult to the judgment and decision-making power of Ohio’s citizens.
The role of elected officials should be to uphold the integrity of our democratic process, not to undercut the results when they disagree with them. I urge you to reject Senate Bill 56 and stand in defense of the decisions Ohio voters have made.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
