Oppose Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker
To: Rep. DelBene
From: A constituent in Bothell, WA
November 6
I am concerned about the direction of Democratic House leadership. I do not believe Hakeem Jeffries should automatically become Speaker without a genuine, competitive leadership process. His meeting with Jared Kushner, his stated opposition to Medicare for All after previously supporting the legislation, and questions surrounding his political relationships with AIPAC and pro-Israel donors raise concerns for me about independence and whose interests Democratic leadership will prioritize. These issues deserve honest explanations, not dismissal.
The Democratic Party cannot credibly promise accountability while avoiding scrutiny of its own leadership and political relationships. No president, billionaire, political donor, foreign government, or member of Congress should be above the law.
We need leaders that will:
-Pursue meaningful investigations and congressional oversight.
-Support campaign finance reform and reduce the influence of wealthy donors and special interests.
-Work to create meaningful change to be better than before, not returning to a status quo.
-Pass Medicare for All and eliminate for-profit insurance.
I encourage you to consider Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for House leadership. I want leaders who are willing to challenge powerful interests, prioritize working families, support meaningful healthcare and economic reform, and demand accountability from both parties.
I ask you to oppose Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker and support an open, transparent leadership election. Please explain your position on House leadership and how you intend to deliver the accountability voters demanded.
Your actions and votes will matter when I evaluate your representation in future elections.
