Funding for Peace Corps
To: Rep. Fine
From: A constituent in Deland, FL
June 24
Rep. Scott Perry's (R-PA) amendment #137 to H.R. 8595 threatens Peace Corps funding for FY27. Nine universities across Florida offer Peace Corps Prep certification programs that not only prepare students for service but also help students interested in federal service.
Please do not allow this resolution to decimate the program. Bringing Peace around the globe, especially when there is so much turmoil, is so important. Showing the U.S. in a positive light, not just through a media lens is crucial to increasing global awareness and understanding.
Peace Corps serves as an opportunity for university graduates but also gives returned volunteers opportunities they couldn't have gained otherwise. After serving your country in such a way should account for more than just a thank you, and Peace Corps had been a spring board for a lot of notable individuals - Reed Hastings, Bob Vila, Chris Matthew's, Lillian Carter, and Joseph Kennedy, III.
Please find a way to keep Peace Corps as part of the country's fabric. It is an amazing way yo have others learn about us.
