Ernst: You Served. Iowa Soldiers Died. You Voted With Trump Anyway.
To: Sen. Ernst
From: A verified voter in Des Moines, IA
March 27
I am your constituent. I pay taxes. I vote. And I have one question I need you to answer directly — before you leave office in January: Is there anything Donald Trump can do — any law he can break, any child he can harm, any war he can start — that would finally compel you to act? Because here is what you have watched happen, and what you have done: YOU SURRENDERED YOUR WAR POWERS — AND AN IOWA SOLDIER DIED You are a veteran. You served as an officer in the Iowa National Guard for two decades. You deployed to Kuwait. You know what it means to send young Americans into harm's way. On February 28, 2026, the United States launched military strikes on Iran — without a declaration of war, without a congressional vote, and without the constitutional authority that Article I, Section 8 grants exclusively to Congress. An Iowa soldier — Army Reserve Sgt. Declan Coady, 20 years old, from West Des Moines — was killed the very next day in Kuwait during an Iranian drone attack. Two Iowa National Guard members were also killed in Syria in December 2025. Iowa soldiers. Your constituents. Dead — in a war Congress never declared. When a war powers resolution came to a Senate vote, you stood on the floor and voted no. You said the decision to go to war is "entirely up to the president" and that "whatever call is made by Donald Trump, I will be supportive." Senator Ernst — that is not what the Constitution says. That is not what your oath of office says. And with respect, that is not what those Iowa soldiers deserved to hear from you. George Washington himself wrote that no offensive military expedition of importance should be undertaken without Congress first deliberating and authorizing it. You voted to give one man more war power than George Washington believed any president should have — one day after an Iowa soldier came home in a flag-draped coffin. THERE ARE FEDERAL DOCUMENTS NAMING TRUMP IN THE ABUSE OF A CHILD The Epstein files are not a conspiracy theory. They are formal federal records — court documents, FBI investigative memos, flight logs, and sworn depositions — released under the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, which passed the Senate unanimously. Over three million pages were released in January 2026 alone. Those records include a filed federal complaint from a woman who alleged she was raped by Trump at age 13. An FBI memo places Virginia Giuffre's recruitment at Trump's own Mar-a-Lago club. Not a rumor. Not a tweet. Federal documents. You have said publicly that you support women. You have spoken about the importance of protecting children. You co-sponsored legislation on human trafficking. Where is that energy now? You have called for zero investigation into these federal records. Not one hearing. Not one letter to the DOJ. You called Barack Obama a "dictator" who should face impeachment over recess appointments. Where is that same standard today? HE BRANDED OUR CURRENCY WITH HIS NAME This week, the U.S. Treasury announced that Donald Trump's personal signature will be placed on all new American paper currency — the first time in 247 years that a sitting president has branded our money with his name. This same president has already affixed his name to the Kennedy Center, federal warships, drug programs, and savings accounts belonging to the American people. This is our money. It belongs to 330 million Americans. It does not belong to one man. And you have said nothing. HE IS DISMANTLING SOCIAL SECURITY Working Iowans have paid into Social Security their entire lives. It is being systematically dismantled. The elderly, the disabled, and veterans — the very people you claim to represent — are watching their security disappear while you focus on octopus hypnosis studies and whole milk legislation. Those are real issues. But they are not the crisis in front of you. SO TELL ME, SENATOR: You introduced the COST Act to demand transparency in government spending. You have investigated COVID relief fraud. You championed Pentagon audits. You clearly know how to demand accountability — when you choose to. How many laws have to be broken? How many children have to be harmed? How many Iowa soldiers have to die in an undeclared war? How much money has to be stolen from working Americans? What is the number? What would it take? Because if the answer is that there is nothing — no crime, no harm, no abuse of power — that would move you to act, then we are no longer talking about party loyalty. We are talking about collaboration. You are leaving office in January. You will not face another primary. You have nothing left to lose — and everything to gain by finally answering to the people of Iowa instead of to one man. History is watching. Iowa is watching. I will share your response — or your silence — with every voter I know. I expect a direct answer. Respectfully, but without apology,
