Upholding Integrity in Indiana Governance: Focus on Fair Maps & Census Adherence
To: Sen. Bray, Rep. Haggard, Gov. Braun
From: A verified voter in Camby, IN
November 26
I am writing as a concerned Hoosier constituent to urge you to prioritize the foundational principles of fair governance, ensuring that the focus remains squarely on the needs of the people of Indiana.
First, I strongly encourage you to dedicate your official time and political capital to addressing critical state matters, rather than becoming unduly involved in the political machinations or electoral campaigns of any specific national figure or political group, including those associated with President Donald Trump. Your primary responsibility is to serve the citizens of Indiana by advancing state legislation, budgets, and services that directly improve life here.
Second, I demand an end to partisan gerrymandering. The manipulation of Indiana’s district lines to guarantee political outcomes undermines democratic fairness and competitive elections. We need committed leadership, from both the legislative and executive branches, to champion non-partisan redistricting reform that ensures districts are compact, contiguous, and reflective of community interests, not political advantage.
Finally, the integrity of the decennial census is non-negotiable. I call on you to commit publicly and unequivocally to adhering to the mandated ten-year census schedule for our district evaluations. This accurate, consistent data is essential for equitable representation and the proper allocation of resources. Any attempt to bypass or expedite this schedule for political gain would be a serious error in judgment and a disservice to our state.
Thank you for your attention to these critical matters of governance and integrity.
