ICE is out of control- even without their renewed funding. Anti-immigrant politicians are getting desperate in their attempts to make this even worse. The ACLU and 450,000 ACLU supporters have sent messages demanding Congress refuse to write a new blank check for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol's violent raids. And so far, Congress listened – denying these agencies new funding for months. You know the public is drawing a hard line. In response, the White House and its anti-immigrant allies are scrambling and trying to dodge normal procedures – turning instead to an obscure and hyper-partisan process called reconciliation to force through more no-strings-attached money before June 1. You can stop this funding, too – and for the safety of our communities, you must. I am writing to insist that you refuse to give one more taxpayer dollar to reckless and unaccountable ICE and Border Patrol raids in reconciliation. These agencies continue to racially profile our loved ones, ignore our constitutional rights, lie to our courts, brutalize our neighbors, and rip parents away from their children. To date, no agent has been held accountable for the killings of Alex Pretti or Renee Good. Meanwhile, ICE and Border Patrol are already better funded than almost every military in the world – and they're using our taxpayer dollars to fuel their cruelty. This reconciliation process is what gave ICE $170 billion last year, money that the Trump administration claims is not subject to any congressional oversight or guardrails. Congress must reclaim its appropriations power and the oversight and transparency guardrails that come with it. WE THE PEOPLE urge you to stand by the people- and our wishes for how our money is spent and how our friends and neighbors are treated in the “land of the free.” Continue to oppose any and all funding to the American SS!
