H.R.1 will destroy our great state and the lives of all Americans.
To: Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy
From: A constituent in Geismar, LA
July 2, 2025
I am writing to express my deep disappointment in your recent vote in favor of H.R. 1. As a resident of Louisiana, I am alarmed by the far-reaching consequences this bill could have on our state and the nation as a whole.
H.R. 1 is a deeply flawed piece of legislation that prioritizes spectacle over the real needs of our communities. Beneath its flashy branding, the bill represents a reckless plan to direct public funds into wasteful development projects, all while slashing funding for essential services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Louisiana, where nearly 35% people rely on Medicaid, would be one of the hardest-hit states by this legislation. If enacted, it would strip health coverage from 17 million Americans, with rural communities, already struggling, bearing the brunt of this devastation. Closing hospitals and nursing homes will only make things worse, and for many, it could be a death sentence.
What’s more, this bill fails to engage with local communities or to consider the long-term impact of its decisions. It ignores critical environmental reviews and deepens inequality by catering to the interests of the ultra-wealthy, who will receive a staggering $1 trillion in tax breaks, while working families face rising costs for basic services like food and utilities.
Two-thirds of Americans oppose this bill, and I believe you have a responsibility to stand with your constituents, not special interests. I urge you to reconsider your stance and demand better for the people you represent. This bill does not align with the values or priorities of Louisiana, and I hope that you will make better decisions in favor of ALL and not “some” moving forward.
