Reject the Proposed Cuts to NASA and NSF

To: Rep. Diaz-Balart, Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A constituent in Miami, FL

April 23

I’m writing as a constituent who stays up to watch rocket launches, who followed the James Webb images with genuine awe, and who believes that what this country does in space says something real about who we are. Please reject the proposed cuts to NASA and the National Science Foundation in the FY27 budget request. The OMB proposal would slash NASA’s Science Mission Directorate by 46%, terminate over 50 missions, eliminate STEM Engagement, and gut NSF. We are not at the beginning of these programs. The Roman Space Telescope launches this year. Dragonfly and NEO Surveyor are on their way. Artemis is sending astronauts back to the Moon. Cutting now doesn’t just stop what’s next — it throws away the billions already spent getting here and tells the scientists who made it happen that their work doesn’t matter. Congress rejected nearly identical cuts last year with strong bipartisan support, and just last month over 100 House members signed a letter calling for increased NASA science funding. This proposal ignores that consensus entirely. Other nations are not standing still. American leadership in space is something we have to choose, and we choose it through sustained investment — not by walking away. I’m asking you to fight for stable, adequate funding for NASA Science, STEM education, and foundational research in FY27. These programs deliver real results, including in our state. I’m counting on you. Thank you for your time.
