An Open Letter

To: Rep. Gutierrez, Rep. Mathis

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

June 8

This bill poses a serious threat to the rights and well-being of transgender students in Arizona. It mandates parental notification when school employees use names and pronouns affirming a student's gender identity, undermining the student's privacy and ability to safely explore their identity. The religious exemption provision enables discrimination by allowing employees to refuse using affirming names and pronouns based on their personal beliefs. Transgender students deserve to have their identities respected in school without discrimination. Protecting vulnerable students should be the priority. I urge you to oppose this harmful legislation that compromises the dignity and rights of transgender youth.
