Keep Public Lands in Public Hands
To: Rep. Simpson
From: A constituent in Boise, ID
May 16
I am writing as a concerned citizen and voter to urge you to stand firm in protecting our nation’s public lands and to oppose any efforts to sell, lease, or transfer these lands to private or corporate interests for drilling or other exploitative purposes.
Our public lands are a vital part of who we are—not just culturally or recreationally, but ecologically. These lands support critical biodiversity, store carbon, and serve as a refuge for both people and wildlife. They are not a commodity to be auctioned off for short-term gain, especially when the long-term costs to our climate, ecosystems, and future generations are so high.
At a time when the climate crisis is accelerating, we should be leading with bold vision—not clinging to the outdated and destructive practices of the past. Rather than enabling more drilling and extraction, I urge you to support investment in clean, sustainable energy solutions. Nuclear energy, in particular, offers a carbon-free option with the potential to provide consistent, large-scale power without polluting our air and water or destroying natural landscapes.
Let’s be clear: public lands belong to the people, not to corporations. They must be preserved for future generations, not sacrificed for the profit of a few. I strongly encourage you to champion policies that keep public lands in public hands and prioritize the transition to clean, reliable energy sources.
Thank you for your time and for your service to our community and our country.
