Oppose Any Attempt to Use the Military to Control D.C.

To: Sen. Crapo, Sen. Risch, Rep. Simpson

From: A constituent in Pocatello, ID

August 13, 2025

Hello, I’m writing as a concerned American to urge you to take a strong stand against any effort by Donald Trump—or any political figure—to use military force to assert control over Washington, D.C. or any part of the country. Deploying the military against U.S. citizens or in our capital without just cause is as unprecedented as it is authoritarian. This is not how democracy works. Crime rates are down in D.C., and the notion of a military “takeover” sounds more like the actions of a dictator such as Putin or even Hitler NOT a leader in a free nation. We must not forget that Trump incited an insurrection when he lost re-election in 2020. Giving him, or anyone like him, military power in the nation’s capital is reckless and dangerous. I ask you to publicly oppose and take all available legislative actions to block any such abuse of power. Our country was built on checks and balances. You are the checks in the system, and you are failing at your job if you allow this to continue. Thank you for your time and service.
