An Open Letter
To: Sen. Cassidy
From: A constituent in New Orleans, LA
May 31
I read that you are going to support the budget bill passed by the House because you believe it will get you reelected. A question: What happened to the man who took an oath to "do no harm"? Or the man who took an oath to defend the Constitution and represent the needs of his constituents? Are they incompatible with the man you are now? Is being reelected such a supreme lust that you are prepared to abandon fully one-third of Louisiana voters to illness and death so that your billionaire supporters don't have to pay taxes?
I had hoped you were different when you did the right, albeit politically difficult , thing and voted to impeach Trump based on the plethora of evidence presented at his trial. I lost that hope when you disingenuously supported Robert Kennedy in his present DHS cabinet position. You were a physician before you were a senator. Whatever drove you to be a healer is buried now, under the rubble of greed, racism, sexism, and xenophobia currently driving the Republican Party, now more accurately characterized as the American Nazi Party.
Instead of healing and serving, you are condemning the poor, elderly, and disabled, the refugees, the sick children who depend on the right to healthcare, to shelter, to nourishment. The inhumanity of this bill is beyond comprehension
Vote against it.
Otherwise, may you live in shame. Add
