House bill 795 must not pass without revision to allow paid family caregivers

To: Rep. Rulli

From: A constituent in Youngstown, OH

June 5

I’m writing to plead that you discard the new bill on family caregiving, not because I partake but because it is a full time job done for the people we love. Our job market and economy in many parts of Ohio are not flourishing, times are becoming even harder than they used to and this bill could strip away many families hope and ability to survive. If you’re worried about Medicare expenses how much do you think it would cost to put family members into facilities on the government’s dime while people who already require assistance struggle to live? Or while they’re scrounging for a job in an already over saturated market. How many medical mistakes do you think will occur with already understaffed and overworked personnel? How many people are you willing to let die because of unproven fraud? Because let’s be honest if it was proven in any way the people doing it would be behind bars. Or is it that you consider caring for those you love waste? The ramifications of allowing this bill to pass are far reaching and detrimental. Allow people to get paid for the work they do it may be in the name of love and family but it is hard grueling and necessary just like working outside of the home.
