I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your extensive and impactful career in service to our country. Your many years representing Maryland have shaped important legislation and served the public good. As you reflect on your distinguished career, I hope you will consider the immense positive impact you could have by facilitating a generational transition in the House. A healthy democracy thrives on periodic renewal and the introduction of diverse new voices. By stepping aside, you would not only secure your own well-deserved rest but also create an invaluable opportunity for the next generation of leaders to contribute their energy and ideas. Cement your legacy now and give the party time to work on a quality candidate to attempt to fill your shoes. We saw what happened when President Biden, Sen. Feinstein, Sen. McCain, etc. held on too long. Please don’t do the same. Set Maryland and District 5 up for success by giving us time to plan. Thank you again for your service.
