Veto HB 318 and Anti-Immigrant Bills

To: Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Durham, NC

May 19

As a constituent of North Carolina, I am asking you to veto any anti-immigrant bills. Immigrants are a crucial part of our state, both as a key component of our economy across the entire state but also as part of our communities. We have been seeing so much legislation advancing through the General Assembly that unfairly and unjustly targets immigrants. This type of legislation will harm our state including all individuals who reside here, regardless of citizenship status. In particular, HB 318 must be vetoed. This bill would force local jails to detain individuals solely based on immigration status and increase mandatory c ooperation between local law enforcement and ICE. This is an unnecessary burden on our law enforcement and our state as well as unconstitutional.
