Demand Accountability for the Joint Base Andrews Jet Fuel Spill
At least 32,000 gallons of jet fuel leaked from Joint Base Andrews into Maryland waterways — contaminating Piscataway Creek, the Potomac River watershed, and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. Even worse, the Department of Defense reportedly failed to publicly disclose the spill for months while our communities, wildlife, and environment were put at risk.
Marylanders deserve answers and accountability.
This is not just an “accident.” This is a public health and environmental failure involving military fuel infrastructure, potential PFAS contamination, and a dangerous lack of transparency from federal officials entrusted to protect both our national security and our communities.
I urge you to:
• Demand a full public accounting of the spill, timeline, and response efforts
• Hold immediate congressional oversight hearings into the delayed disclosure and environmental impacts
• Require comprehensive independent testing of local waterways, soil, and drinking water for jet fuel contaminants and PFAS chemicals
• Ensure affected communities receive transparent updates and long-term health monitoring
• Push for modernization and inspection of aging fuel infrastructure at military installations
• Hold any officials responsible for negligence, concealment, or regulatory failures accountable
Maryland families should not have to worry about poisoned waterways because federal agencies failed to act responsibly or honestly.
Protecting the Chesapeake Bay, the Potomac watershed, and Maryland communities should never be secondary to political damage control.
Please act immediately and publicly on this issue.
