Reject harmful anti-transgender youth bills in Missouri

To: Sen. Luetkemeyer, Rep. Pouche, Gov. Kehoe

From: A constituent in Kansas City, MO

February 4, 2025

Missouri's proposed bills to permanently ban gender-affirming health care for transgender minors and prohibit transgender student athletes from competing on teams aligned with their gender identity are very concerning. These measures would severely undermine the well-being and rights of transgender youth in the state. Medical organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Association support gender-affirming care as crucial for the health and development of transgender youth. Denying access to this care can have devastating consequences, increasing risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Similarly, prohibiting transgender athletes from participating fully robs them of important experiences that build character and teach critical life skills. Both of these proposed policies essentially discriminate against transgender youth and make them feel ostracized from their communities simply for being who they are. All young people deserve to have their identities affirmed and be able to thrive. I urge you to reject these harmful bills and instead pursue policies that support and protect the rights of transgender youth in our state. Their health, dignity, and futures depend on it.
