Please kindly disregard my previous email. It was sent by mistake and was intended for another party altogether. My sincere apologies. If however, you find yourself questioning any of the actions taken in the past two weeks, please take pause to consider how terrifying it has felt for many Ohioans. Our magnificent country in crisis, a crisis of division. We used to be able to discuss and debate issues to find common ground. We all agreed on the democratic process without hesitation but differed on certain issues. Now we see a harsh polarization and disregard for the other. But that is not the America or Ohio that I grew up in. In the last 14 days, Indigenous peoples are being told their right to be on this land is invalid. Schools and hospitals are being invaded to search for people to round up. We were told TikTok is “dangerous” and is banned - only to be brought back?…..Puerto Ricans (and legal citizens) have been detained and questioned just because they spoke Spanish. Funding was frozen that so many of us rely on… Most of feel attacked in one aspect or another. Maybe you actually agree with these measures? But honestly, I don’t think any of you thought it would be like this either. My experience with your leadership has shown you all to be fair and just leaders. Just last December our Representative came through our schools to understand career programs that we offer. It was a wonderful visit. That seems like it was years ago to me after all I have seen. Intention or not, the current president is using his perceived power as a weapon against us. Even you must be questioning some of the actions and choices. Please- If any of this message has rung true, choose to defend the Constitution and democracy. We need you- America needs you.
