This Cannot Go On

To: Sen. Graham, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Greenville, SC

September 11, 2025

Members of the Senate, I implore you to think of our children. There have been two school shootings in two weeks. Eight this year. 37 injured. More than 250 innocent lives have been lost to school shootings. Lives of children. Lives of tiny souls who believe their mommy and daddy and their teachers when they are told that school is a safe place. More than 250 families who have had their heart torn out and will never fully heal. I know that we can make a change to gun law without violating the second amendment. That amendment was created for protection against those who wish us harm. Not for blood-soaked Hello Kitty backpacks and children who witnessed a horrifying hellscape as they watched their dead friend’s lollipops fall out of their mouths. You know many teachers, including myself, give the kids lollipops to keep them quiet while we play “hide and seek” during lock down drills. I beg you. I plead with you. Make the change. Make the laws uphold the necessity of psychiatric evaluation before the purchase of a death tool. Make the guns harder to get. Don’t allow assault rifles. I too love the Lord and send my thoughts and prayers constantly. But the Lord works through us. If we aren’t willing to do the work He’s given us, how can thoughts and prayers make a difference. Please do not write me back from an automated reply account talking about how you uphold the laws of our founding fathers. Our founding fathers were not around for school shootings. P.S. guns are the number one cause of death for children in America. Number one.
