I urge immediate legislative action to end the harmful tariffs currently burdening American families and businesses. The time to act is now — not in months, not in years, but this legislative session.
Tariffs are silent taxes on working people. They raise prices on essential goods, strain supply chains, and contribute to inflationary pressures that weigh heavily on households and small businesses alike. While these tariffs were justified under claims of national security and trade retaliation, they have long outlived their usefulness and now only serve to impede our economic recovery and resilience.
Congress has both the constitutional authority and the responsibility to act. Under Article I, Section 8, the power to impose and remove tariffs belongs squarely to Congress. While I recognize that past sessions have delegated substantial authority to the executive branch, I urge you to reassert congressional leadership on this issue.
Specifically, I call on you to:
1. Introduce and champion a bill to immediately repeal harmful tariffs across the board, prioritizing those raising costs on everyday Americans.
2. Advance a concurrent resolution urging the President to use executive authority to swiftly end these tariffs while congressional action is underway.
By doing both, you send a clear, bipartisan message: that this Congress stands with the American people against avoidable economic strain. Furthermore, this moment calls for leadership that reminds us of what democracy looks like in action — responsive, accountable, and bold.
Time is of the essence. There is growing public momentum for this change, and I can assure you: your constituents are watching closely. We want solutions. We want relief. And we want leaders willing to act decisively in the public interest.
I look forward to your response and to seeing your leadership on this matter in the coming days.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.
