The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) oversees vital programs that support affordable housing, prevent homelessness, and aid disaster recovery efforts across the nation. However, severe staffing cuts, office closures, and grant cancellations imposed by the current administration threaten to cripple HUD's ability to fulfill its mission. A projected shortfall in Section 8 voucher funding could leave over 280,000 households without housing assistance. These damaging actions undermine the stability and well-being of millions of vulnerable Americans. As an LICSW, I have clients who rely on these housing benefits to survive - now more than ever with rising costs for basic needs. Congress must take immediate action to restore HUD's staffing levels, reopen field offices, reinstate grant programs, and ensure full funding for housing vouchers and other essential services. Allowing these unlawful attacks on HUD to continue will have devastating consequences for communities nationwide. Robust and properly funded housing support is crucial for promoting economic security, public health, and opportunity for all. I urge you to forcefully oppose any further attempts to dismantle this vital agency and the programs millions rely upon.
