The Social Security Administration plans to cut 7,000 jobs and reduce its regional structure from 10 offices to just 4, raising grave concerns about the agency's ability to serve millions of Americans who rely on Social Security benefits. Staffing at the SSA is already at a 50-year low while the number of beneficiaries continues to grow by 10,000 people daily. Frontline workers who directly assist the public as well as critical support staff face potential layoffs. This restructuring will inevitably lead to longer wait times, delays in processing claims and hearings, and put vulnerable Americans at risk of not receiving their earned benefits on time. We urge you to protect the Social Security Administration from these harmful workforce reductions. Social Security is a vital lifeline for retirees, disabled individuals, and survivors who have paid into the system throughout their working lives. Diminishing the agency's capacity to efficiently administer these crucial benefits would be a disservice to the American people. Instead of downsizing, the SSA requires adequate staffing and resources to fulfill its mission of providing prompt and accurate service to all who are entitled to Social Security's protections. Preserving and strengthening this essential program must be a priority.
