Stop Illegal Renditions to El Salvador’s Inhumane Prison I am writing to demand immediate congressional action to stop the illegal rendition of U.S. residents and citizens to El Salvador’s notorious mega-prison, CECOT — a facility internationally condemned for torture, indefinite detention, and systematic human rights abuses.
This is not deportation — this is extra-legal rendition: the covert transfer of individuals suspected (but not convicted) of crimes to foreign prisons where due process, humane treatment, and basic constitutional rights are non-existent. We now know that Kilmar Abrego García, a Maryland man with no criminal record, was admittedly sent in error by the U.S. government. We also know that President Trump has openly stated he would “LOVE to deport U.S. citizens to El Salvador gulags if it’s legal” and would be “honored” to do so. This is a human rights emergency. I am calling on you to:
1. Launch a formal investigation into these illegal renditions.
2. Demand the immediate return and release of all unlawfully detained individuals.
3. Introduce legislation prohibiting the rendition of U.S. citizens and residents to foreign prisons.
4. Publicly condemn any plan to expand this horrifying precedent to U.S. citizens.
This cannot become normalized. Congress must act swiftly to prevent the erosion of constitutional protections and to stop the U.S. from participating in state-sponsored human rights violations.
We are watching. Do not stay silent.
