Oppose NESE pipeline
To: Gov. Sherrill
From: A verified voter in Ocean, NJ
March 30
I urge you to OPPOSE the NESE pipeline.
NESE Is A Climate Change Disaster! NESE will lock the region into using decades of methane gas fracked from the rocks in Pennsylvania, polluting the air, land and water. Over the 50 years, these trillions of cubic feet
of methane gas will be shipped to NY to be burned, further contributing to climate change.
NY does not want the methane. The demand for methane gas is falling
throughout the state and New York City region. NY Governor Hochul and NYC Mayor Adams are aggressively cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and they have stated opposition to the project.
Potential for Offshore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Exports - There have been
several attempts in the last decade to create an offshore LNG terminal in the same area that were thwarted. The clear lack of need for the project and falling demand for fossil fuels in NYC suggests another motive for this billion dollar project. It could jump-start a new LNG export operation, which will drastically increase fracking in Pennsylvania and greenhouse gas emissions globally.
Transco’s record is frightening. In recent years, Transco’s pipelines and pumping stations have experienced over ten explosions or fires. The company has received safety and risk violations from various federal agencies in NY and NJ. The company has also received numerous fines from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for unsafe discharges of pollutants.
Please OPPOSE!
