The legalization of marijuana for adult recreational use has proven beneficial for states that have implemented it, generating substantial tax revenue and job creation while providing a safe, regulated supply. With our neighboring state of Minnesota having already legalized cannabis, Wisconsin businesses are at a competitive disadvantage. By following Governor Evers' proposed plan to tax and regulate marijuana similarly to alcohol, we can level the playing field, foster economic growth within our state, and protect public health through responsible oversight. Furthermore, the proposed expungement measures would provide relief to those unjustly burdened by prior marijuana convictions. I firmly endorse this comprehensive approach as it aligns with shifting public attitudes and promises to yield positive fiscal and social impacts for Wisconsin.
