I am reaching out to you for some assistance regarding an ongoing dispute that multiple parents are having with the Union BOE and the superintendent/principal Steve Jackopsic. We have all made efforts to reach out to the administration and to rectify this issue on our own without any success. The BOE has disregarded the parents concerns and preferences regarding the change of designated high school. The Town of Union has had Woodstock Academy as their designated high school for roughly 20 plus years, until 2025-2026 school year. They changed the designated high school to EO Smith. If we decide to send our children to Woodstock, we are required to pay the difference in the tuition. Not one child is attending EO Smith, the two that were have now moved or are homeschooling due to their experiences. I reached out to Woodstock Academy and was advised that the Legal Counsel for the CT Department of Education has sent a ruling to the Union BOE DEMANDING that they rescind the tuition requirement. I have requested a copy of this ruling from both the Union BOE and Steve Jackopsic, I have received nothing. We would appreciate any assistance and or guidance your office can provide. Add that this was a major issue last year with the parents who were completely ignored and yelled at during our boe meetings. We are worried there will be retaliatory actions from unions superintendent and pull woodstock academy as a school option which is why we all moved to town here.
