Support Legislation to Revoke Corporate Election Spending Authority

To: Gov. Ferguson

From: A verified voter in Vancouver, WA

March 17

I'm asking you to support legislation that redefines corporate powers under state law to exclude election spending authority. This approach clarifies what state-created corporations are legally empowered to do. Almost two-thirds of Americans across party lines oppose Citizens United, yet corporate money keeps flooding our elections. Bills modeled on California's AB 1984 treat unauthorized election activity as ultra vires—beyond lawful corporate authority. Violations can result in loss of charter privileges like limited liability. Corporations are state-created entities. If we create them, we can define their scope. Co-sponsor or introduce similar legislation that revokes corporate election spending authority under state law.
