Fund Wildfire Prevention Instead of Tax Breaks for the Wealthy
To: Sen. Cook, Gov. Little
From: A constituent in Ammon, ID
April 29
Idaho needs to prioritize wildfire prevention funding over tax breaks for the wealthy. I want you to vote against any new tax cuts for high earners and redirect that revenue toward proactive wildfire management.
Wildfires are bankrupting our state's emergency budgets while we hand out tax breaks to people who don't need them. Other states are already adopting creative funding mechanisms for fire prevention because they've learned the hard way that paying for suppression after the fact costs exponentially more than prevention. Idaho should follow their lead before we lose more homes, more forests, and more lives.
The math is simple. Every dollar we invest in fuel reduction, prescribed burns, and forest management saves us multiple dollars in suppression costs and property damage. Meanwhile, tax breaks for the rich do nothing to protect Idaho families from the smoke, evacuations, and destruction we face every summer. We need leaders who will choose public safety over political favors.
