Good morning. I woke up on this beautiful morning watching videos of a woman being forcibly dragged out of San Jose airport by 4 randomly dressed dudes, screaming for the safety of her children. I read a lovely news story about a refugee from Laos who was forcibly deported in direct contradiction of a court order, leaving behind his wife and children.
A lot of my days begin this way. The only way I get through my day is by closing my eyes to what's going on around me.
I know you're getting a lot of pressure on the shutdown. I know it's causing pain. It needs to cause pain. People need to know that this government is out of control and is out to hurt people. Fight for what's right. Fight for healthcare, sure, but fight to get troops out of our cities. Fight to get corruption out of our governments. Fight for some humanity in our immigration system.
All of us need to do everything we can. Right now, for you, that's standing firm by the principles of service to the people, the rule of law, and simple human decency.
