We have a team of individuals from various groups and churches who are visiting DHS and reporting back. Large numbers of people who are doing everything right- coming from all over the state to check in for their immigration appointments- are getting detained and sent to Georgia. Last week a 26 year-old girl from Venezuela was detained while her brother and father hugged each other and wailed helplessly in the parking lot. And there was a wife who had waited hours for her husband…she was left crying uncontrollably after being informed he was detained. On Thursday there were 12 people detained. Cell phones are not allowed in the building which adds to the uncertainty and confusion as loved ones wait. Often those on the inside don’t know phone numbers by heart. These are hard-working people who have jobs and families. This cruel system is what you have supported. These are not the worst of the worst. They are not the criminals that you and Donald Trump promised to deport. We are holding every single one of our elected representatives responsible for this horrific treatment. You need to stop this right now or this will be your legacy
