Vote NO on any of Governor Lombardo's Education [or any of his other] bills that are vague and open to interpretation that could lead to undemocratic or unethical protocols, procedures, and actions.
l believe that Governor Lombardo's Education Plan will leave the public education system worse than it was. For example, "School Choice" vouchers allow families that can already afford tuition at private schools an opportunity to pull funding from public schools. Instead of focusing on ways to fix issues within public schools, vouchers further erode the public school system (basically gut and cut public education). I believe that we need to work toward fixing issues with public schooling instead of scrapping the institution for parts.
Also, let's talk about the 'elephant in the room'.
Public schools are held to DEI standards to ensure all students feel welcome. Diversity, equity, and inclusion practices support kindness, acceptance, and celebrating differences. Whereas private schools can decide who they allow to attend, protocols, and curriculum. With private schools, there is the opportunity for discrimination. Taxes paid for public schools need to go to public schools!
Teacher merit pay sounds good at face value, but it could easily lead to unethical favoritism. I don't see it as a best practice to attract and retain highly qualified teachers. I am not aware of any evidence that a merit pay system for educators works.
Let us not forget that Trump and Lombardo endorsed each other during their elections. Many reputable news media outlets reported their endorsements of each other. That alone keeps me questioning all of his actions and motives.
Vote NO on any of Governor Lombardo's bills that are vague and open to interpretation.
Thank you
