The DOJ is meant to uphold the laws of this country, and yet they are defying a judges orders to release documents related to the Epstein files. A bipartisan Congress passed a law demanding the release of these files ages ago, and yet, the DOJ refuses. Under Trump, the rule of law has never been more threatened. How has our justice system come to this? U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan is threatening contempt proceedings and sanctions against the Justice Department after Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's agency missed deadlines to submit withheld, unredacted Jeffrey Epstein records for private court review. The lawsuit, brought by legal commentator Katie Phang, challenges heavy DOJ redactions and millions of withheld pages under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Judge Sullivan found that the Justice Department failed to provide valid legal justifications for keeping draft indictments, FBI notes, and explicit references blacked out.The DOJ's Stance: The DOJ maintains it has fully complied with statutory duties and argues that further unmasking files would violate victim privacy.
