While I support efforts to help families with children, the latest proposed Republican gimmick, a birth "bonus" only underscores the lack of understanding of what is needed and any commitment to actually being pro-family as opposed to strictly being pro-birth. If you want to help families, pass legislation that requires paid maternal and paternal family leave, paid sick leave, universal Pre-K, universal health care, a living wage, and restores the $300 a month child tax credit that was active during the pandemic.  Families don't want a token payment or a medal; they want structural reform that actually makes having children affordable.
