I am writing to you as a concerned constituent to express my deep frustration and alarm over the continued refusal of House Speaker Mike Johnson to swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, who won a decisive victory in the September 23 special election to represent Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
Despite the certification of her election and the absence of any legal or procedural barriers, Speaker Johnson has delayed her swearing-in, citing the government shutdown and scheduling excuses. This delay is unprecedented and unjustified, especially given that other representatives have been sworn in during pro forma sessions under similar circumstances.
This obstruction is not only undemocratic—it is disenfranchising over 800,000 Arizonans who currently lack representation in Congress. It also raises serious concerns about political motivations, particularly given that Rep.-elect Grijalva’s signature would be the 218th needed to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files.
I urge you to:
• Publicly demand that Speaker Johnson immediately swear in Rep.-elect Grijalva.
• Support any legal or procedural action necessary to compel her induction.
• Advocate for the constitutional rights of voters to have their elected representatives seated without delay.
This is not a partisan issue—it is a matter of democratic integrity. The people of Arizona’s 7th District have spoken, and their voice must be heard in Congress.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your leadership in defending our democratic principles.
Sincerely
